Map Area Calculator (“the App”), shown on your home screen as “Map Area Calc”, is developed by Tigran Barseghyan (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the App handles and how. The short version: the App has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and nothing you draw or save ever leaves your device. The only network traffic is the map imagery itself and Apple’s purchase system, both described below.
The App can show your current position on the map and centre the map on it. For that it asks iOS for location access “while using the app”. The permission is optional: if you decline, every feature still works — you can search for a place from the built-in list or simply pan the map.
When granted, your position is read from iOS on the device and used only to place the blue location dot and move the map. It is never stored, never uploaded and never sent to us or to anyone else. The App does not use location in the background and does not keep a history of where you have been.
You can withdraw the permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Map Area Calc.
There is no sign-up, login, password, email field or profile. We never ask for your name, address, phone number or date of birth, and we have no database in which such a record could exist.
The map is drawn from tiles streamed over HTTPS from third-party map services, depending on the basemap you pick:
server.arcgisonline.com)tile.openstreetmap.org)tile.opentopomap.org)Each request tells that server which map tile to send — in effect, the region and zoom level you are looking at — and, as with any internet request, the server receives your device’s IP address as a normal part of networking. We do not operate these servers, do not receive this traffic and cannot see it. Their handling of it is governed by the Esri Privacy Statement, the OSMF Privacy Policy and OpenTopoMap respectively.
Note that the tiles describe the place you are viewing, which is not necessarily where you are: nothing about your GPS position is included in a tile request.
The map view is built on Apple’s MapKit framework. Apple’s own handling of MapKit is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
The location search sheet filters a list of places that ships inside the App. Typing in it does not send anything anywhere.
Points you place, the shapes they form and the results are computed on the device. When you save a measurement, its title, notes, category, colour tag, points and results are written to a local database on your device. It is not uploaded, not synced to iCloud and not shared with us. Deleting the App deletes it.
Export writes a KML, GPX or KMZ file containing only the shape you drew and the title and notes you typed, and hands it to the iOS share sheet — where it goes from there (Files, AirDrop, Mail, another app) is your choice and is governed by that destination. Import reads a file you pick or XML you paste; the App only reads it and does not send it anywhere.
The App offers Map Area Pro as an auto-renewable monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple Account using StoreKit. We never receive or store your name, card details, billing address or Apple ID. The App checks your entitlement by reading the signed transaction Apple issues on the device; that check does not involve any server of ours. Apple’s handling of purchase data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
To count the free tier, the App keeps a small counter of completed Area and Distance measurements on the device. It is a number, not a record of the measurements themselves, and it never leaves the device.
The App stores on your device only: your saved measurements (section 5), whether the results card is expanded, the free-tier counter and a cached Pro flag (section 6), and iOS’s own cache of recently viewed map tiles. None of this leaves your device, and all of it is removed when you delete the App.
The App is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal data from anyone, so no personal data from children is knowingly processed.
We hold no personal data about you, so there is no account to access, correct, export or delete. Everything the App keeps is on your device and is removed by deleting the App; measurements you want to keep can be exported first. Purchases remain tied to your Apple Account and can be restored at any time.
If the App’s data practices change, we will update this policy and the effective date above before the change takes effect.
