Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up, no login and no password. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account by Apple.
What is free and what is Pro? Free includes two Area measurements and two Distance measurements, unlimited Markers, every basemap and every unit. Map Area Pro makes Area and Distance measurements unlimited. It is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase that never renews.
What counts as one of the free measurements? One shape reaching a result — three points for an area, two for a distance. Adding more points to that shape, dragging vertices, undo and redo are all free. Clearing the shape, loading a saved measurement or importing a file starts the next one.
How do I upgrade or manage my plan? Tap the … button in the top-right toolbar, then Upgrade to Pro. Once you are on Pro the same menu item reads Manage Subscription. Subscriptions can also be changed or cancelled in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for.
How do I restore a purchase on a new phone? Open … → Upgrade to Pro and tap Restore Purchases at the bottom of the sheet. Sign in to the same Apple Account you bought with.
Can I get a refund? Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Use reportaproblem.apple.com or Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Purchase History on your device.
How accurate are the measurements? Area and distance are computed geodesically on the WGS‑84 ellipsoid, so the maths stays accurate over large distances. In practice the result depends on where you place the points, on the resolution and alignment of the imagery at your zoom level, and on the map source. Zoom in and use Add Point at the crosshair for the tightest placement, and drag any vertex to fine-tune. The app is a measuring aid, not a survey instrument — see the Terms of Use.
The map is blank or tiles are not loading. Map imagery is streamed from the internet. Check that you are online, then pan or zoom slightly to trigger a reload. If one basemap fails, try another from the … menu (Satellite, Street Map, Terrain) — they come from different servers.
Does the app work offline? Placing points, measuring, changing units, saving, importing and exporting all work offline. Only the map imagery needs a connection, so a shape you draw with no signal is still measured correctly — you just may not see the map underneath it.
How do I place points precisely? Tap the + button on the right to open the point panel. Add Point drops a vertex exactly at the crosshair in the centre of the screen, with a live distance preview from your last point. You can also tap the map directly for a quick sketch. Tap any vertex to select it and drag it into place; the panel’s trash button removes the selected point, or clears the whole shape when nothing is selected.
How do I import a KML, GPX or KMZ file? Tap the import icon in the top-right toolbar and choose Files to pick a file, or paste the XML text directly. A file received in Mail or Messages can be saved to Files first and then picked from there.
How do I export a shape? Tap Export on the results card, pick KML, GPX or KMZ, and use the share sheet to save to Files, AirDrop it, or send it to Google Earth, QGIS, a GPS unit or a colleague.
Where are my saved measurements stored? On your device only. They are not uploaded anywhere and are not synced to iCloud. Deleting the app deletes them, so export anything you want to keep as KML, GPX or KMZ first.
Does the app track my location? No. Location access is optional and is used only to centre the map on where you are; your position is read on the device and never sent to us. If you decline the permission everything else works as normal — search for a place instead, or just pan the map.
Can I change the units? Yes, at any time: … → Units & Format. Area can be shown in square metres, hectares, acres, square kilometres, square feet or square miles; distance in metres, kilometres, feet, yards, miles or nautical miles. Existing measurements convert instantly.
Which map sources are used? Satellite imagery from Esri World Imagery, Street Map from OpenStreetMap contributors, and Terrain from OpenTopoMap. All three are fetched over HTTPS. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), © OpenTopoMap (CC‑BY‑SA), satellite imagery © Esri.
