In short
Nothing leaves your iPhone. The app has no network access, no server, no account and no analytics.
The camera is used as a light meter. Frames are reduced to numbers on the spot; no photo or video is ever saved or sent.
What you choose to save stays on your device, and goes elsewhere only if you share a PDF yourself.
The rest of this page explains each of these in full.
Camera
The app uses the back camera only while a measurement (or its own diagnostic screen) is open. During a measurement:
- each live frame is reduced to brightness statistics of the centre of the view
- each still taken for the result is reduced to a grid of brightness values
- a small greyscale preview of the first reading (about 120 × 160 pixels) is kept so the app can show a faint copy of it and help you aim the same way again
All of this is held in memory only and discarded when the measurement ends. No photo or video is written to storage, added to your library or sent anywhere. Camera access can be revoked at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera; the app then explains that a measurement needs the camera and does nothing else.
Motion sensors
While a measurement is open, the app reads the iPhone’s motion sensors (the direction of gravity and the gyroscope) to tell whether the phone is pointing the same way as at the first reading. These readings are used on the spot and never stored or sent. iOS does not ask for a permission for this.
What is stored on your device
- Saved measurements (Pro): the VLT result with its uncertainty and confidence, the window position, an optional vehicle or location label, an optional note, the region selected at the time, the date, and the numerical readings behind the result. They stay in the app’s private storage until you delete them or remove the app.
- Preferences: your chosen region, whether you have seen the tutorial, and a count of measurements completed in the current month for the free allowance.
There is no sync between devices, and the developer never receives any of it.
Network and analytics
The app contains no networking code and makes no connections of its own. There are no analytics, no crash reporting services, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.
The only network traffic connected with the app is Apple’s own: the App Store, and Apple’s handling of purchases described below.
Purchases
Tint Meter Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple through your Apple Account. The developer never receives your name, payment details or billing address. The app receives only Apple’s confirmation that Pro is active on the device.
PDF reports
A PDF report is created on your device only when you tap Share PDF, and is handed to the standard iOS share sheet. Where it goes from there is your choice. It contains the measurements, labels and notes you selected.
What the app does not do
- No user accounts or registration.
- No servers of the developer; no sync.
- No advertising, no advertising identifier, no tracking, no data brokers.
- No sale or rental of any data.
- No access to your photos, contacts, location, microphone or health data.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not collect personal data from anyone.
Your rights
The developer holds no data about you at all, so there is nothing to look up, correct, export or delete on the developer’s side. Everything is under your control on the device:
- delete a saved measurement by swiping it away, or delete the app to remove everything
- revoke camera access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera
Questions are welcome at the address below.
Changes
If the app’s data practices change, this policy and its effective date are updated before the change takes effect, and the change is noted in the app’s release notes.
